The Butterfly Project
After reading Elie Wiesel’s Night and the historical fiction novel The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Mrs. Bankston’s 9th grade English students created “Holocaust butterflies.” The idea was inspired by the book I Never Saw Another Butterfly, a collection of children’s drawings and poems from the Terezin Concentration Camp. Students depicted icons from this horrific period onto butterfly templates. A vote was conducted in each class for the most exceptional butterflies. All the butterflies are suspended from the ceiling in room C203.
