Soft Structure Buildings

I recently read a blog article from Jim Denison who was speaking about the earthquake potential in California.  He mentioned 500,000 people who live in “soft structure” buildings.  These are buildings with parking garages under them that used less support columns to accommodate more parking space.  They were not designed for the side to side shaking of an earthquake.  He used the concept of a “soft structure” building as a metaphor for those around us living without faith in these turbulent times.  

I believe we are living in an age where many families spend more time focusing on momentary experiences, accomplishments, or appearances and neglect to build a firm foundation that will sustain their families and children during a “side to side shaking” crisis.  It is so important to follow Colossians 2:7 and be, “Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”  Our purpose at Parkview is to introduce and grow students in the foundational strengths of God’s Word and a relationship with Christ.  After all, if He “is for us, who can be against us (Romans 8:31).”  

With all of the plates you are spinning as families, I want to encourage you that when you have your student in a Christian school, they are being fortified with the spiritual qualities that will produce a truly strong life.  As you sacrifice to have them in a private school, we will do our part to see that we do not cut corners and produce any “soft buildings” where our students are concerned.  I am sure there is a temptation to go to a free school so more experiences can be offered to your child, but I want to encourage you that you are investing in the most important things when you choose a school with a strong spiritual underpinning.  Stay in the fight for your kids and pray that we are guided by the Spirit to produce students who grow in wisdom, and in stature and in favor with God and man (Luke 2:52).
