Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at Parkview Baptist School

At Parkview Baptist School, we are proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 to October 15. This month is dedicated to recognizing the rich culture, history, and contributions of Hispanic Americans, and this year’s theme is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.”

Our Spanish classes have embraced the spirit of the celebration by participating in various cultural activities that have broadened their understanding of Hispanic traditions. Students worked together to creatively decorate the doors to the Spanish classroom, adding color and excitement to our hallways. They also learned about the origins of the piñata, creating and decorating a traditional mini donkey piñata, a hands-on activity that tied history to creativity.

One of the most exciting experiences was a trip to Independence Park Theater, where our students attended the Latin Iberian Show. This incredible program featured vibrant choreography, stunning costumes, and lively performances that brought the beauty of Latin dance to life. Our students were thrilled to watch the colorful dances and even had the unique opportunity to join the dancers on stage and practice some moves themselves! The show provided a well-rounded cultural immersion, and it was an unforgettable experience for all.

As Hispanic Heritage Month continues, our students will continue learning about the cultural influences that shape the Hispanic world, celebrating not just in the classroom but through shared experiences that bring us all closer together.

Let’s continue honoring the rich Hispanic culture and the pioneers who shape our world!

In addition to the month long celebration our students have enjoyed, we also are proud to announce the students who have placed in the National Spanish Exam. The National Spanish Exam (NSE) is an online, motivational competition that recognizes, stimulates, and promotes students’ linguistic competence and proficiency in Spanish. In addition to the contest, the NSE is a standardized online assessment for grades 6-12, that measures both content standards (vocabulary and grammar) and performance standards (reading and listening comprehension). This tool provides valuable feedback on the students’ proficiency, monitoring and tracking their progress and development each year.

Students who place at or above the 75th percentile at the national level receive medals (gold, silver, bronze, honorable mention) and are eligible to apply for several types of scholarships (Global Citizen Scholarship, Junior Study Abroad Program, Senior Scholarship).

The recipients of these awards are:

Spanish II:  Level 2   Ray Pineda / Silver medal
Spanish III: Level 3  Sarah Prado / Bronze medal

Honorific Mention:
Logan Parker- Level 2 Honorifica
Laura Golda-   Level 2 Honorifica
