Parkview Powerlifting Makes History

In its second year, Parkview Powerlifting has established itself has a highly competitive team returning from the LHSAA Division III state competition with an individual state title and several placements. Anna Wooten, a senior and a first-year lifter, took home a state champion title with a 245 lb. squat, 110 lb. bench press, and a 270 lb. dead lift. Wooten makes history as the first powerlifting state champion at Parkview Baptist School. Madison McCullough also took the podium with a third-place finish after a down to the wire competition in her weight class. McCullough will also go down in the record books for breaking the Class 3A squat record with her 265 lbs. performance. The future is bright for powerlifting as two freshmen also placed – Laurel Cassidy came in forth in her weight class and Leah Lott placed sixth.
The boys have a young team of first year lifters who rose to the occasion with three placements. Hayes Boone placed fifth and has become an internet sensation with his dead lift, Ethan Payment came in sixth, and Nehemiah Johnson placed eighth.
These hardworking student athletes are led by Head Coach Jeff Daniel. Coach Daniel has been a part of high school powerlifting for over 20 years. These students are in the weight room at 6 a.m. to complete their practice and ensure they can be a multisport athlete.
