High School Art Club members learned about Alma Thomas at their January meeting. Students learned how she was an art teacher for several years in Washington, D.C., developed her “Alma Stripes” style at the age of 75, and that her painting “Resurrection” is the first painting by an African American woman to hang in the White House. Art Club members did a Valentine-themed collaboration project where each member painted a heart in the center of their paper and passed them along until the hearts were surrounded by our take on “Alma Stripes”!

The Art Club is also known as National Art Honor Society. Any high schooler can join art club or NAHS, but students who have taken art and made at least a B in the class and participate in the club their senior year can earn cords to wear at graduation.
Ms. Emily Babin has served as the Art Club Sponsor over the last 18 years! Students meet in her classroom at least once a month during Club Day.
