Parkview Baptist School has named Phillip Hawke as the fifth Head Baseball Coach in program history. Hawke has 16 years of coaching experience coming off a three-year stint as the head coach at Liberty Magnet High School. Tasked to resurrect the baseball program at Liberty in his first head coaching position, Hawke guided the Patriots to the playoffs in their first year of eligibility.
Hawke is a familiar name to the Parkview community having served as an Assistant Baseball Coach for six years prior to his stint at Liberty Magnet. While with the Eagles, he was a member of five district titles, three state finals appearances and a state title in 2013.
“I’m extremely humbled and honored for the opportunity to come back to Parkview Baptist and lead this great program,” Hawke said. “Parkview has been a special place for my family and I for many years now. I look forward to meeting with everyone and building on a winning tradition.”
Hawke attended Woodlawn High School where he was a two-time all-state selection player. He was a standout at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he was a two-time all-conference selection and helped guide the Ragin’ Cajuns to two NCAA Regional appearances. In 2005, Hawke was drafted by the Texas Rangers and played seven years of professional baseball.
“Phillip is a great person on and off of the field, as well as a fierce competitor,” UL associate head baseball coach Anthony Babineaux said. “He brings the same passion to coaching as he did when he was playing. The lessons he teaches young men are invaluable for their growth. I have no doubt he will be successful in this next endeavor.”
Hawke has been married to his wife Cindy for seven years. They have one daughter, Brynlee, who is four years old.
“Coach Hawke fits our mission. He knows the program inside and out and has been a part of the tradition. I have no doubt he will continue to uphold the championship ways while shaping young men along the way,” said Superintendent Don Mayes.
The Eagles are coming off of a 33-2 season with a Division II state runner up finish. Please join us in welcoming home Coach Phillip Hawke.
