The Parkview Baptist indoor track and field team had a strong showing at the LHSAA Division II Indoor Track and Field championships this past weekend at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse on the campus of LSU.
“I could not be more pleased with our performances at the state indoor meet,” head coach Chad Landry said. “Everyone competed to the best of their abilities. To have two individuals win state championships and represent Parkview Baptist with their hard work, dedication, and class is all a coach can ask for.”
The girl’s team finished third overall with 42 points paced by another outstanding performance by senior Ariel Pedigo who won the state title in the high jump (5-6 1/2), long jump (18-8) and the 60-meter hurdles (9.22). Pedigo also placed second in the shot put (37-3 ¾), while senior Landace Abshire finished fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 9-8.
Pedigo currently ranks second in the nation in the high jump with a mark of 5-8 set at the LSU Last Chance Meet last month.
“Ariel Pedigo solidified herself as the best female high school heptathlete in the United States last weekend,” Landry added. “She was dominant in the field events. It is truly a blessing to have an athlete like her on our team. What she did has only been done by a handful of girl’s track athletes in LHSAA history.”
On the boy’s side, senior Trey Boucher was the state title winner in the pole vault with a jump of 14-10, while Logan Harris placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 20-7.
The Parkview track and field outdoor season gets underway on Friday, March 5 at the Griffin Relays hosted at Dutchtown High School.
