2020 Cross Country Registration

Hello Parkview families,

I hope all is well with you and your families amidst this difficult time in our lives. I pray that all of you remain healthy and safe and that we get our lives back to normal as soon as possible. With that being said, since the end of school is near, and summer is right around the corner, I am sending this email to families of current 4th-11th graders who may be interested in joining the cross country team next school year.  I also wanted to explain a few important details to everyone, especially anyone who may be interested in joining the team for the first time.

Participation:

In cross country, everyone gets to compete in every meet, no matter how many people we have on the team. The varsity races are three miles, and the middle school races are two miles. No one “sits the bench” at any point. Anyone with any skill level of running can be on the team and be successful.

Practice:

Even though our first meet isn’t until the first weekend in September, it is vital, like all other fall sports, that we practice in the summertime in order to develop a base of endurance. Assuming that our lives are back to normal by then, our first summer practice will be on Monday, June 1st. We will have practice every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at various BREC parks in the area, with Highland Road Park being the most common location. Parents are responsible for getting their children to and from practices and meets, so we encourage carpooling if possible. Practices in the summer are not mandatory. If you have a vacation scheduled or something unforeseen comes up, just let me know. However, we encourage everyone to make as many practices as possible for the betterment of the individual and the team. When school begins, we will practice Monday-Friday from 4:30-6:30 with the same guidelines as mentioned for summer practices except that practice is mandatory. Once the season begins in September, we will not practice on Fridays since most of our meets will be on Saturday mornings until the middle of November. I will attach a tentative schedule with this email.

Participation Fees:

The participation fee for middle school runners is $150, and the fee for varsity runners is $200. This helps to defray the costs of meet entry fees, popsicles at the end of all practices, etc.

Travel:

Again, parents are responsible for getting their children to and from practices and meets. Besides running in meets in Baton Rouge, we also travel to Lafayette and New Orleans for meets. Although nothing is definite, we are also thinking about running in a meet in Mississippi and possibly bringing back our trip to a meet in Disneyworld in October.

These are just a few of the basic “need to know” details about our cross country family. We expect to have an outstanding group of runners back on the team this year and build on last year’s very successful season. We encourage anyone who is interested in joining the team to give it a chance. We consider ourselves a big family, and again, it is a sport where everyone competes, no matter what skill level. We will have a parents’ meeting to go into further detail about everything once we are allowed to and life returns back to normal. If you have any questions until then, please feel free to email me at chad.landry@parkviewbaptist.com. Please click the button below to sign up.

We hope to see you on the team this year!

Coach Chad Landry
