“Shirt Off My Back”

“Shirt Off My Back” is a new tradition for Parkview senior athletes. It is adapted from a program that local schools in Ascension parish have participated in for years now. To adapt it to Parkview’s ideals and mission, it has been re-branded it the “Psalm 32:8 Award.” Each student should make their choice of teacher based on not only how this teacher has affected them in the classroom setting, but also how this teacher has impacted the student’s life outside of the classroom. Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go, I will council you with my loving eye on you.” By giving this award to a particular teacher, the student is acknowledging that teacher’s efforts and successes in being Christ-like in that way. It is truly encouraging to even be considered by a student, and it is an absolute honor to be selected.

Teachers who are selected receive a hand-written letter from their nominator – explaining the reasons supporting the choice, and a T-Shirt with the student’s name on it. Teachers are encouraged to wear the T-Shirt to their nominator’s senior night to show their thanks and support to the student.
