We have nine #parkviewstrong Faculty couples on staff together. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we thought it would be fun to get to know these PBS lovebirds in this throwback post!

Don Mayes (Superintendent) and April Mayes (Director, PBC Fine Arts Academy). Don and April have a grown daughter, Kesley and son, Daniel who is in 11th grade.

Where did you and your spouse meet? We met at Parkview Baptist School in 1985.

Where did you go on your first date? Pizza Hut on Sherwood Forest Blvd. after a track meet.

What do you love most about each other? April: Don’s sense of humor. He makes me laugh a lot! Don: Her strength and detailed nature. She also still laughs at stuff I say and do!

What drives you crazy about each other? April: When Don puts his coffee cup on the counter NEXT to the dishwasher instead of IN the dishwasher. Don: Her detailed nature. The men in our house are not perfectionists!

When did you get married? July 14, 1990

What is your favorite memory from the wedding? April:  My father is a pastor, so he performed our marriage ceremony. My favorite memory of the wedding was his sermon. He said so many wise things and gave us advice that I still take to heart today.  He gave the same wedding sermon at our daughter’s wedding this past July which was really special for us! Don: Walking out to music at the end

BJ Wilson (Elementary PE) and Gina Wilson (1st Grade Teacher). BJ and Gina have Stella in Faculty Daycare and a new baby boy on the way!
Where did you and your spouse meet?  Bj and Gina met at Parkview! Gina took over a teaching position in September of 2011. Gina met with Mrs. Cathy over dinner her first night here and Bj just happened to come over to his parent’s house that night!  The rest is history!
Where did you go on your first date? Jones Creek Cafe.
What do you love the most about each other?
BJ– I love how accepting she is of me and loves me the way I am.
Gina– I love his willingness to serve everyone around him.

What drives you crazy about each other?
BJ– her driving
Gina– It drives me crazy that BJ does not wash his toothpaste all the way down the sink!
When did you get married?
June 8, 2013
What is your favorite memory from the wedding?
BJ– The moment the doors opened and I watched her walk down the aisle.
Gina – The whole ceremony was so sweet and a true reflection of our relationship which I will never forget!

Matt Foval (Technology Helpdesk) and Randi Foval (1st Grade Teacher). Matt and Randi have a new baby, Brady.
Where did you and your spouse meet?  In 6th grade at PBS
Where did you go on your first date? Wahada for Sushi
What do you love most about each other? Randi: I love watching Matt with our son. He is so patient and loving with Brady. He was definitely meant to be a father!
Matt: I love her smile and to hear her laugh.
What drives you crazy about each other? Randi: He drive really slow.  Matt: She drives really fast.
What is the best memory from your wedding? Randi: I was able to watch guests arrive at the ceremony on the security cameras at the venue. My sister in law even got Matt to wave to me
(through a camera) while I was anxiously awaiting for the ceremony to start. Also, when we exchanged vows I tried to put his
wedding ring on the wrong hand. When it didn’t fit, we both panicked. Eventually, his mom told me I was putting it on the wrong hand. Ha!
Matt: Our family surprised us with a Bentley to take us home after the reception.

Patrick Spikes (HS History) and Shannon Spikes (PreK teacher) Patrick and Shannon have Dylan in Faculty Daycare, Wyatt (PreK) and new Baby  Jolee

Where did you and your spouse meet? On a Mission Trip to Mexico in 2005
Where was your first date? To the movies to see Freedom Writers
What do you love the most about each other? Shannon: I love how much he cares for me and our 3 kids. He would do any and everything for us. He loves us deeply and is tons of fun to be around!! Couldn’t ask for a better life partner.  Matt:  I love how Shannon sees true joy in everything. And as we raise our three kids together,
my love grows stronger for her everyday seeing what an amazing mom she is!

What drives you crazy about each other?  Shannon: It drives me crazy that he leaves his shoes all over the house. Patrick:  What really drives me crazy about Shan is when she eats cereal around me. I have to go in the other room. Just drives me crazy for some reason.

When did you get married? September of 2010

What is your favorite memory from the wedding? Shannon: We danced all night long…so much fun! Patrick: Dancing all night with her and our close friends (Baptist approved dancing of course….)

Matt Shelton (High School History) and Jessica Shelton (College Advisor). Matt and Jessica have Caleb in 4th grade and Josh in 3rd.
Where did the two of you meet? At Matt’s brother’s college graduation ceremony.
Where did you go on your first date? Dinner at Calendars restaurant and a night of mini golf at celebration station
What do you love the most about each other? We love that we can talk about anything to each
other
What drives you crazy about each other? Matt: Jessica’s timing on chores is always sooner than Matt’s
When were you married? January 9, 2004
What is your favorite memory from your wedding?  Matt: Watching Jessica walk up the aisle.

Scott Dieterich (Elementary PE) and Joana Dieterich (MS Division Head). Scott and Joana have Mazie (PBS Alum) and Mary Scott (10th)

How did you and your spouse meet? Scott and I met in high school when he sat two seats behind me in Mrs. Hembre’s sophomore English class. I had a crush on him for an entire school year before he finally asked me out our junior year.
What was your first date? Our first official date was homecoming our junior year. In those days the homecoming dance was after the football game. I remember that when he came to my house to pick me up he had to ask my dad to tie his tie.
What do you love the most about each other? Scott: I love that Joana is passionate about her career. Because of her passion for education she understands my passion for football and isn’t resentful of the amount of time away from the family it takes to be successful.
Joana: The thing I admire and love most about Scott is his humble spirit. Most people will never know the really cool things he has accomplished in his football coaching career.
What drives you crazy about each other? Joana: The thing that drives me crazy about Scott is his need to keep ALL his grooming supplies (tooth brush, tooth paste, mouth wash, medication, cologne, deodorant, etc) on the counter around his sink. When we built our house I designed a cabinet with a pull out drawer to store all his supplies in an easily access way in hopes that this would change his habit. No such luck. Scott: Joana has the most obnoxious sneeze and hiccups. They are loud, shrill and startling.

When did you get married? We got married February 28,1992 after dating for 8 years. We will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary this month!

What is your favorite memory from the wedding? Before the wedding everyone cleared the sanctuary except for Scott. I walked into sanctuary to spend a few minutes alone with him before we met at the altar. The time alone together before the hectic pace of the ceremony and reception would have to be my best memory. We had grown up together and now it was official……we would grow old together.

Ben Haindel (HS Division Head) and Courtney Haindel (Director of Marketing and Enrollment). Ben and Courtney have Mary Evelyn (10th), Molly Mae (5th) and Campbell (1st)

How did you and your spouse meet? We met while working together at our old school in Covington.
Where did you go on your first date? Ben cooked me dinner at his house on Valentine’s Day 2008 – steak, vegetable soup and bread pudding. Pretty impressive feat for a confirmed bachelor who mostly ate mac and cheese and ramen noodles!
What do you love most about each other? Ben: What I love the most about Courtney is that we never seem to spend enough time together. We are literally within 50 yards of each other 24 hours a day, but we never grow tired of each other. She makes me want to be a better man.
Courtney: I love that Ben speaks to my Acts of Service love language every day and he loves our children passionately. He really should give Amazing Husband lessons.
What drives you crazy about each other?
Ben
: She’s really smart and always right. She also eats some really loud healthy crackers every night which sound like she’s chewing on glass.  Courtney: Ben told our children he was allergic to vegetables so therefore doesn’t have to eat them. He’s practically perfect in every way but is slightly miserable to feed.
When did you get married? October 18, 2008
What is your favorite memory from the wedding?
Ben: Just before the wedding started, Courtney had someone pass a note to me saying that she was there at the church and that she loved me. Those two things are always good to hear on your wedding day. I know everyone thinks so, but my bride was by far the most beautiful woman in the world that day.
Courtney: Listening to Ben vow to love me and my children forever, and updating my Facebook relationship status and last name in the car on the way to the reception! I was really fired up to do that.

Jonathan White and Paige White (MS Bible). Jonathan and Paige have Judah (5th) and Eden (2nd) and Olive (4 years)

How did you and your spouse meet?  Jonathan and I met in college (Ouachita Baptist University) doing a show together with the theatre department.  I assisted with recruiting for the theatre dept. at that time and we later realized that I was the recruiter who called Jonathan and convinced him to attend OBU.  🙂

Where did you go on your first date? While we were working for a theatre in Kentucky during one summer, we began dating secretly because there was another girl there who liked Jonathan and we didn’t want to cause any drama (ironic, I know)- on our first date we drove an hour to go to a Krispy Kreme and walking by the Ohio River.

What you love the most about each other?  Paige:  I love  Jonathan’s sense of humor and passion for worship.  Jonathan: I love Paige’s passion for God and her awesomeness as a mom.

What drives you crazy about each other? Paige is sensitive to other’s eating habits and her family is  no exception. Paige often has to look away when Jonathan eats and drinks simultaneously (Just keepin’ it real). Jonathan doesn’t like when Paige offers friendly advice regarding his driving skills.

When did you get married?  May 8, 2004

What is your favorite memory from the wedding? Our wedding party exited the ceremony by singing and dancing to “As” by Stevie Wonder- good times!  🙂

Shawn Liner (Technology Coordinator) and Marja Liner (MS Librarian). Shawn and Marja have Maggie (6th) and Mason (3rd)

How did you and your spouse meet? Shawn: I was teaching/helping with the college department at Istrouma Baptist Church. We started hanging out during the Easter musical. I was in the orchestra and she was an actor in the musical.

Where did you go on your first date? Shawn: This is hard to answer…it’s hard to define “first date”.  Sometimes we refer to our first date as when I took her to the zoo. We have a picture of us on the old oak by Monkey Hill. A few years later, I won the techie-teacher-of-the-month award at PBS, which included a gift certificate to Ruth’s Chris. I took her out to eat and to see “The Producers” at the Saenger.  So one could say that PBS paid for our first date 😉 Marja: PBS has been an integral part of our story from the beginning.

What do you love most about each other? Shawn: We are both nerds in our own ways. Marja: But we’re both Disney nerds!

What drives you crazy about each other? Shawn: We’re both hard-headed and opinionated. Marja: Who? Me? 😉

When did you get married? Marja: New Year’s Eve 2004. Shawn: We got married in the foyer at Istrouma Baptist Church. It was the perfect size for our wedding, and she was so beautiful coming down the curved staircase.

What is the best memory of your wedding? Shawn: My dad performed the wedding, my friend performed the music, another friend took the pictures, the reception was at another friend’s house.  Marja: The most important people in our lives were around us that day. Each one playing an important part to make that day special.
