Flooded House Cleanup and Volunteer Opportunities
Dear PBS Family,
We have been overwhelmed (in a great way!) with families wanting to help out our PBS families. It has been incredible to watch! We are posting pictures on our school FB page and website of our volunteers helping out today.
Here is the plan for the next three days:
IF YOU NEED HELP CLEANING OUT YOUR HOUSE (getting rid of wet stuff/furniture, ripping up wet stuff, etc) PLEASE FILL OUT THIS QUICK FORM.
We are trying to keep everything in a centralized location in order to coordinate volunteers.
If you lose this email, you can direct others to this url: http://www.parkviewbaptist.com/floodcleanup
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER TO HELP CLEAN UP HOUSES, SHOW UP IN THE COURTYARD WED AND THURSDAY MORNING AT 9AM!!
What do I wear/What do I bring?
- Wear work clothes. You will get grungy! At this point most houses need emptying before they can begin gutting. LOTS OF TRASH!
- Bring any types of tools that will be helpful when cleaning/gutting:
- WORK GLOVES (everyone will need these…please bring your own)
- wheelbarrows
- carpet knives
- industrial garbage bags (need a ton of these) – preferably clear
- hand wipes
- paper towels
- screw drivers
- duct tape to keep fridge/freezer shut
- boxes for removing belongings
- moving dollies for appliances and large furniture
- long straight edges
- basic tools
- masks
- bleach
- rags
I can’t work in houses but I can bring supplies. Anything on the above list would be awesome! Especially extra gloves and garbage bags. Also snacks and water bottles to send with teams once they go out to the houses. You can drop these tomorrow morning and Thursday morning in MS Gym lobby at 9am.
Is this appropriate work for little ones? Probably not for students under 7th or 8th grade. However, we are offering HOLIDAY CAMP from 8:00-4:00 for students PreK-6th grade for $10/day. You will drop off in MS Gym and Mrs. Cathy and her crew will take them from there. This way your little ones will be taken care of while grownups can go out on site. We will get as much work done in the next two days before school begins, and we will be back at it again on Saturday and Sunday.
Last, if any of our PBS families need temporary housing/a family to stay with while you get a plan in place, please respond to this email and let me know how many people you have and how long you anticipate needing somewhere to stay. We have several families that have volunteered to host people.
Let’s stay #parkviewstrong!
