State05_1264x848The Eagle cross country teams had outstanding performances at this year’s state meet held on the NSU campus in Natchitoches this past Wednesday.  The race was held in extremely muddy conditions from two days of rain.  The girls team, led by 7th grader Ariel Pedigo and juniors Amber Desselle and Kameron Tate, placed 3rd.  This was the highest finish for the Lady Eagles since the girls began running 3-miles in 2003.  Ariel placed 11th while Amber was 13th and Kameron 14th.  Other girls that made up the team were sophomore Meredith Tuttle (31st), freshman Sierra Charles (42nd), 7th grader Landace Abshire (62nd) and 8th grader Madison Broussard (63rd).

The boys team placed 7th with 8th grader Alex Vega leading the way with a 4th place time of 17:15 over the 3-mile course.  Alex’s performance garnered him All-State honors by placing in the top 10.  Sophomore Dawson McCulloch also ran strong with a 20th place finish.  Other members of the team were junior Nick Beard (69th), freshman Bryce Park (78th), and seniors Lance Holmes (83rd) and Brendan Aguillard (96th).  The boys accomplished this despite missing 3 of our top runners out with injury or illness – Lance Abshire, Reese Brumfield and Jackson Palumbo. State03_1264x848

Congratulations to our Eagle cross country team and their coaches on a fantastic season!
