Professional Development Day Recap
Wonder what your teachers were up to on Tuesday?
As you know, we have several Professional Development days built into our calendar this year to prepare for Accreditation and continue our cycle of continuous improvement. Here’s a sneak peek of what our teachers were busily working on Tuesday.
Early Childhood teachers reviewed our emergency procedures to make sure we had all of our bases covered. We went over several possible scenarios to properly train our teachers to be prepared for any event. We also received training in our new EGSI assessment tool. The EGSI, a digital, interactive tool, will assist Early Childhood in vertical alignment with first grade by providing data to identify children for targeted assistance.
Elementary Division teachers received professional development on our new peer observation tool. We then completed an application activity where we watched and scored a lesson using the new tool and collaborated with our peers on how and why they scored it the way they did. Teachers also began putting together their student data binders which contain the ERB results from the spring as well as all of our beginning of the year assessments results. We met in grade levels to analyze all of that data and develop a plan for continued growth. It was a day full of learning!
Middle School Division teachers rotated through three sessions focusing on vertical alignment, peer walkthroughs, grading, discipline, it’sLearning and the PBS Faculty Accountability Program. The teachers then met by departments to polish their curriculum guides and begin the task of vertically aligning curriculum within the Middle School. We will build on the work completed on Tuesday during our next professional development days as we expand the discussions between divisions.
High School Division teachers met by grade level to review each student’s academic progress. The faculty then participated in three work sessions focusing on vertical alignment, peer walkthroughs, grading, discipline, and our Teacher Accountability Program. The teachers then met in their respective departments to discuss vertical alignment throughout the high school curriculum in preparation for the whole school curriculum alignment which we will begin in October.
Our next Professional Development Day with no students is Tuesday, October 13th. (Fall Break – No school for Students OR Teachers is Monday, October 12th. This is the Monday after Homecoming)
