Native Fish in the Classroom
The paddlefish tank in the CP Biology classroom is home to 22 new paddlefish fry. The hatchlings are part of the Native Fish in the Classroom program, in which students maintain a classroom-based nursery aquarium to grow the native Louisiana paddlefish. The goal is to produce paddlefish that can be used by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ Booker Fowler Fish Hatchery to help manage the protected fish population in the state. Students will have the opportunity to release the paddlefish back to Louisiana’s freshwater waterways once the fish are larger.
