Parkview Baptist Marching Band Receives Superior Ratings At The Southwest Classic Marching Festival
On a cold and windy Saturday, November 1st, the Parkview Baptist High School Band, Blue Extreme, and Silver Steppers put on an outstanding performance at the Southwest Classic Marching Festival held at McNeese University Stadium. They received superior ratings in music, auxiliary, percussion, drum major, general effect, and overall band for their show performance of “It Don’t Mean a Thing, if it Ain’t Got that Swing”. Superior ratings are the highest ratings achieved at festival. Additionally, they received best in classification awards in each of the categories awarded: music, auxiliary, percussion, drum major, general effect, and visuals. There were nine other bands in Parkview’s classification. It’s not all about the awards and trophies, but the students were excited to bring home 12 trophies in all.
The journey to success began in the middle of July at band camp. Everyone practiced from 7:30am-8:30pm for two weeks. Since then, they spent countless hours memorizing music, practicing marching, and learning choreography during class and at after school practices. It takes significant coordination to play an instrument, spin a flag, and dance as a unit all while marching to specific points on the field.
Between the hot and humid weather of July to the cold windy day on November 1st, these students have shown what it takes to be Parkview Strong.
