Welcome to Laurie Adams!
Welcome to our Brand New Director of Advancement, Laurie Adams!
Laurie will be beginning this week as our Director of Advancement. Laurie comes to us with years of fundraising experience, most recently at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and St. Luke’s Episcopal Day School. Laurie will be working closely with the Enrollment, Marketing, Communications, Athletics and Constituent Relations Staff. Get to know Laurie a little better and give her a big Eagle welcome!
Tell us about your family. I have been married for 25 years this June to my husband Johnny! Johnny is the Legal Counsel for the Commissioner of Conservation, Department of Natural Resources. Will, 20, is a sophmore at LSU in Business Management. Laura Beth, 16, is a junior at Baton Rouge Magnet High School.
What church do you and your family attend? First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge
What made you want to come to Parkview? Courtney, Don, Meredith, Jessica, Cindy! Most importantly, the vision of the Administration and the Board for the future of the school.
What is a super interesting fact about Laurie? When my parents came to the adoption agency to see me, the case worker told them that I had a birth defect. My parents braced for the worst only to discover that my webbed toes were considered a “birth defect”. They told the case worker that they thought they would be ok with a baby who had webbed toes and they brought me home!
What three things would you take to a desert island? Coffee, asthma inhaler, and a large crate of books
Favorite Snowball flavor? Wedding cake
Hidden Talent? Not really talented, but I LOVE to sing in a choir!
Why is Christian Education important? Knowledge for the sake of knowledge is a good, but half of the equation is missing. Knowledge coupled with faith reveals the purpose of life, the brilliant design and artistry of our creator Father, and roots us in the greatest story ever told. Christian education also gives us peace, hope and mercy in the midst of a broken world and imperfect people.
Anything else we need to know about Laurie? I collect annual giving letters, gala invitations, and annual reports – really anything fundraising related! Nothing makes me happier than a co-worker bringing me a piece they received in the mail :-). I am ALWAYS happy to hold anyone’s baby at any time – even if they are crying. If you want to discuss religion or politics, come sit next to me at a party. AND when my grandmother researched our family genealogy the only famous person she found was Don Blocker – Hoss Cartwright on the old TV show “Bonanza” – is a distant cousin.
