Thursday update – VOLUNTEERS AND SUPPLIES NEEDED
Dear PBS Parents and Students,
We had an awesome day! We were able to send several teams out into the community. Please check the website and our Facebook page for some action shots!
Here is the plan for tomorrow (Thursday)
WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS. WE CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE MANPOWER WHEN WE GO TO THESE HOUSES.
- We need volunteers 9th grade and up, willing to help move furniture, pull up wet carpet, go through wet belongings, and in general help to clean.
- The work is HOT, it is MESSY and it is not very fun. However, it is incredibly rewarding and the families we are helping are beyond grateful.
- We will begin at 8:30 on Thursday morning – meet in the courtyard.
- We have five team leaders who will be taking adults and high school students into three houses each (about 2.5 hours).
- We need a VERY LIMITED amount (as in maybe 10-12) high school girls to help with uniforms and with Holiday camp care tomorrow. If you have a daughter that wants to volunteer, please email Courtney Haindel and we will do a first come, first served list.
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
- Volunteers must wear LONG PANTS.
- High School age volunteers MUST bring a waiver signed by their parents. They will not be allowed to go into the field without the signed waiver. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE STUDENT WAIVER. (also attached to this email)
- We will have paper copies available tomorrow morning
- We will work from 8:30-4:30 on Thursday.
IF YOU NEED HOLIDAY CAMP CARE BETWEEN 8:00-4:00 FOR YOUR PREK-6th GRADER WHILE YOU VOLUNTEER, WORK, OR CLEAN UP YOUR HOUSE…
We have room for you! The kids will need to bring a lunch and arrive by 9am because they are going to the movies! They can be dropped off in the cafeteria.
CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP AND PAY FOR HOLIDAY CAMP.
IF YOU FILLED OUT THE FORM SAYING YOU NEED CLEANUP ASSISTANCE – We are coming to you! We cannot get to everyone in one day but we will be working Thursday through Sunday. You will get a call from Mrs. Cathy Wilson the night before we come to your house so you know we are coming. Homeowner must also sign a waiver stating they understand that we are volunteers and not contractors.
IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF PBS UNIFORMS….
We have an awesome (free) Uniform “Store” set up in the High School Library. We will be open tomorrow (Thursday) between 9:00-3:00 for all of our displaced students who may have lost their uniforms.
If you have your uniforms and were not affected by the flood, you need to be in your proper uniform beginning on Friday for Prep Day/Night. However, for FLOOD VICTIMS who cannot get access to their regulation uniform, we will be extending a “grace period” through September 26 to give you time to get uniforms that are the proper length, brand, etc. Please see your Division Head or Dean of Students if you have any questions about that.
IF YOU CANNOT VOLUNTEER…..We really need cleanup supplies. You can drop these off Thursday and Firday morning in the Middle School gym lobby and we will use them Thurs – Sunday.
We need (as many as possible)
- Masks
- Rubber gloves
- Work gloves (please bring your own)
- Box cutters/blades for box cutters
- Industrial garbage bags
- Plastic bins
- Hand wipes
- Hand sanitizer
- Bleach
- Rags
- Paper towels
- Duct tape to keep fridge/freezer closed
- Moving dollies for appliances and large furniture (we can just borrow these)
FRIDAY – SUNDAY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
- FRIDAY: We will have five teams going out on Friday morning beginning at 10am. High School students will still be involved in Prep Day, but parents are more than welcome to join teams.
- SATURDAY: HUGE PARKVIEW SERVE DAY. (Start Time We are hoping that this is our biggest day to serve, since many parents who work during the week have not been able to do so. In addition, we will ask our high school students to serve in their new Community Service shirts (they will receive these at Prep Day)
- SUNDAY: Teams will go out again beginning at 9am.
- SUNDAY EVENING – We plan to have a casual celebration service at Parkview Baptist Church at 5pm to thank God for His provision and protection before school begins on Monday.
We also have a plan in place through the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Organization for them to provide longer term assistance to our families that will need that once we cannot do so because school is in session.
THANK YOU!
