Coach Sam Barham was born in Rantoul, Illinois in 1952 and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Westwood High School in Memphis, graduating in 1970. While in high school, he participated in cross country, basketball, track and baseball.
After graduation, Barham attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg graduating in 1975 with a B.S. degree in Athletic Administration and Coaching. While at Southern Miss, he was the top distance runner on the Golden Eagles Cross Country team. He later completed his Master’s Degree in 1992 in Coaching and Sports Administration at Southern Miss.
Coach Barham just recently completed his 42ndyear in education and his 7th year at Parkview. Throughout his career he has had the opportunity to coach cross country, track and field, basketball, football, baseball, softball and golf. He has also served as Athletic Director at two different high schools, most recently at Zachary High School where he was employed from 1985 to 2005. While at Zachary High, he also served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach, Head Cross Country Coach and Track Coach. At Parkview, Barham serves as the MS Athletic Director, Head Cross Country Coach for the high school and middle school, Head Track Coach for the middle school and Assistant Varsity Track Coach. He has also coached girls and boys basketball during his time at Parkview.
Coach Barham has been married to his wife, Elaine, for 42 years and they have three children; Eric, Holly and Laura Kate. They also have two grandsons; Jackson and Ethan.
